Although 'Župski pjat' bears the subtitle 'Festival of traditional gastronomy of Župa dubrovačka', it is - much more than that. Over these few days, it has included workshops, lectures, a fashion show, and excellent speakers. One of them is Vedran Mezei, whose storytelling lecture titled 'Priče iz Mlina: Sjaj i bijeda u vrelu života' concluded this year's, the first edition of our small but content-rich Festival.
This event took place in the old Duper family mill in Mlini, and the author, storyteller Vedran, designed the event exclusively for this occasion, addressing, among other things, the importance of water from the mills for the Republic, as well as the socio-artistic context of that time, and comparing the Republic with European and global trends. Thus, visitors were given insight into the history and cultural heritage of Župa dubrovačka through an unusual and atmospheric experience, and it's exciting to hear that Vedran will likely repeat this fantastic evening.
On Monday, amidst candlelight and in the extraordinary ambiance of the old mill, Vedran evoked the medieval atmosphere that accompanies the lecture theme. Initially, Vedran spoke about an interesting decision made by the government at the beginning of the 14th century, which was exclusively related to the mills, and the storytelling continued with the social circumstances in Europe at the time when, after several centuries of the Dark Ages, a movement emerged that would profoundly change the outlook on life for the majority of the inhabitants of the old continent. Vedran further enriched this 'exclusive' first lecture by presenting significant artistic paintings from that era and, as a true storyteller, highlighted the stories associated with these masterpieces. Pleasant and interesting, Vedran concluded the first lecture on the 'heat of life' by considering the impact of these events on the Dubrovnik Republic and on the times in which we live today.
Interest in the first lecture was so strong that, just twenty minutes after the announcement, the number of visitors was filled. Therefore, Vedran is opening a new session tonight, Tuesday, April 30th, and you can sign up at 0953284521. We hope that our storyteller will continue to keep these kinds of evenings alive in the ambiance of the old mill, and that we will enjoy them many more times!
