A heritage fashion show of traditional Župa dubrovačka folklore costumes and jewelry, titled 'Sa regala, iz burala' took place this Saturday, April 27th, at the Sheraton Dubrovnik Riviera Hotel. This event was the centerpiece of the 'Župski pjat' festival, the first festival of gastronomic tradition of Župa Dubrovačka. Around hundred visitors acquainted themselves with the tradition and heritage of our region this Saturday.
The show began with the presentation of everyday attire for activities such as going to the fields and the green market, and continued with the display of ceremonial attire for weddings, and clothing for attending mass. Visitors had the opportunity to see men and women from Župa dubrovačka in various traditional costumes, with particular attention drawn to wedding attire and jewelry, as well as our golden traditional folklore costume (zlatari). Members of the Cultural and Artistic Society (KUD) complemented the show with everyday items used in the past and present, such as baskets, spades, milk pitchers, and prčija (gifts) for the newlyweds.
In addition to the presentation of costumes, the fashion show included demonstrations of traditional dances such as the Župa polka, mazurka, duet, čičak, and Župa poskočica, accompanied by the sounds of the lijerica.
Through this event, the Cultural and Artistic Society 'Marko Marojica' successfully showcased the richness and beauty of the Župa Dubrovačka tradition, captivating the audience with their exceptional performance and exquisite costumes. Established in 1976 with the goal of preserving and promoting the rich tradition of Župa dubrovačka, this fashion show further emphasized the society's mission.
Saturday's fashion show concluded with an opportunity for the audience to interact with our folklorists, eager to learn more about the costumes and jewelry, providing a real opportunity to get acquainted with the rich cultural heritage of Župa dubrovačka.
The programme of the first 'Župski pjat' festival is co-financed by the Tourist Board of Župa Dubrovačka, and throughout the festival, two exhibitions are available for viewing - tools of Župa cuisine at the Flamingo Restaurant, and Župa Carnival posters (selection) at the Bistro Pizzeria Kapo.
During Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, a documentary about the tradition of Župa Dubrovačka is being screened at the Ruzmarin Gastro & Bar, and all participating restaurants offer traditional Župa menus throughout the festival.
